Obituary for James "Jimmy" Gene Meier (Huff)

James Gene Meier

Obituary for James Gene Meier (Huff)

James Gene Meier Sr., a resident of Norman, Oklahoma, succumbed to complications after open heart surgery in the early morning hours at the comfort of his daughter's home surrounded by his family on March 3, 2019.  James was 76 years old.

James Meier was born August 23, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He was the only son of Thomas and Josephine Huff.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Josephine Huff, and his two grandchildren Rebekah Burkhalter Gibson and Tyler Meier.

James is survived by his wife, Mary, of 55 years, daughters Suzette (John) Ash, Jeanne Marie (Chip) Barrere, sons James (Melinda) Meier II,  J.P. (Ashley) Meier, sisters Ann Kleese, Tomi Huff, 13 grandchildren, 10 great0grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family.  James was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.

James was a notable and unique individual, a true man of distinction.  He was steadfast in his calling to his wife, children, and the Lord.  Above all things, he walked the path of Christ, as a servant-leader to both his family and God.  He provided for and loved all with self/sacrificing commitment, passion, and love.  To the church, he served in various positions, utilizing his skills as an ordained minister, evangelizing to all he came into contact, imparting his zeal for the Lord.  To his family, he stood as a role model, imparting the word of God to his children and exemplifying unconditional love and acceptance.  His children could not escape his constant blessings and prayers that he frequently bestowed.  He never allowed those around him to doubt their worth to both him and the Lord.  James was humble above his role in this world and those around him were humbled by his strength and steadfastness of perfecting all he came into contact with.  He will live on in so many that were influenced by his good works!

He loved the study of all history. He spent his free time traveling, watching various boxing or mixed martial arts on TV, and completing small home projects.  He had a strong appreciation of tools, having worked in the trades for many years.  He acquired a large collection over the years, of which he was very proud of.

During his service in the United States Navy, he participated in the construction of the Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier.  The crews' motto was "Can Do" and he carried that motto into all aspects of his life, with his favorite bible verse being "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

He is already greatly missed, especially by his loving wife/best friend.  Please keep her and his family in your prayers.

As an honored veteran of the United States Navy, James will be laid to rest at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma on Friday, March 8 with a small service to take place at 1:00.

Flowers may be sent to Mary Meier at 1812 NE 26th St. Moore OK  73160
