Here are a couple of pictures of me from my youth, recently sent to me by my cousin, Mary Ann, in Cape Girardeau, MO.

On the backdoor steps, holding a baby chick.
Looks like my left hand is bandaged up.

Cousin, Robert Mark Palms, Jr., Dies

Robert Mark Palms, Jr., known by many as Mark, of Manchester, Mich., passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 70 in New Orleans, La. Mark was a beloved husband, father, brother, educator, and musician whose passion for the arts touched many lives.

Born on August 30, 1954, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., he was the son of Bob and Sue (O’Leary) Palms, who both preceded him in death. Mark was a graduate of Austin Catholic Prep School in Detroit. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Mark taught K–8 music at Napoleon Community Schools. In 2002, he founded the Riverfolk Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Mich., bringing a diversity of local, national, and international performers and artists to his community.

Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol Wells Palms; his daughters, Jacqueline, and Natalie Palms; “like sons,” William Bernard and Arnud Szanto; his sisters, Jules Palms and Marie Louise “Mitzi” (Mike) Palms-Burt; and his loving extended family.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10am, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Dr, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Visitation will begin at 9:30am at the church. Interment will follow at Mt. Elliott Cemetery, 1701 Mt. Elliott St, Detroit, Mich.

Arrangements were entrusted to Chas. Verheyden, Inc.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or any music or arts organization of your choice in Mark’s honor.

The Palms family would like to thank Mark’s doctors and staff at Touro Hospital in New Orleans, as well as the family and friends who have always loved him and supported his family.

(Mark Palms, great-great-grandmother, and my great-great-grandmother were sisters)

So sorry to hear that Mark has passed away.
